May Magazine

Completed: Spring 2020

The Goal.

May Magazine is a spunky, bright, and adventurous publication. It was written, designed, and curated for children to learn about art history movements and self-expression through art making. In this process I wanted the reader to experience the feeling of the art movement without explicitly showing what it looked like visually.

The Solution.

During this process I created a main character that travels through each art movement. In the bold layouts, this character demonstrates the most pivotal and encapsulating parts of each movement. Created with both handmade and digital elements, the distinctive illustrations are cohesively bound together with a unique Japanese saddle stitch binding.
